ADVERTISEMENT September 14, 2021 | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Greater Boston Legal Services Notifies Individuals of Privacy Incident Boston, MA Greater Boston Legal Services, Inc. (GBLS) announced today that it is notifying individuals who may have been impacted by an incident involving some of their personal information. GBLS recently discovered that some individuals' personal in- formation may have been acquired when an unauthorized third party gained access to the GBLS computer network. GBLS has no evidence that anyone's personal information has been misused for the purpose of committing fraud or identity theft. Because GBLS is unable to identify exactly what documents were accessed or acquired by the unauthorized third party, it is providing notice to anyone whose information was stored on its network. The information involved for each individual varied, but may have included name, date of birth, address, Social Se- curity number, and limited health information. Upon learning of the incident, GBLS promptly secured its com- puter network to prevent further access. It also engaged a fo- rensic security firm to investigate and confirm the security of its email and computer systems, and GBLS is analyzing potential, additional security enhancements. GBLS is notifying all poten- tially impacted individuals for whom it has a valid mailing ad- dress and has arranged for complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services for these individuals. The notice will include information on steps individuals can take to protect themselves against potential fraud or identity theft. In general, GBLS is recommending that individuals regularly monitor cred- it reports, account statements, and benefit statements. If indi- viduals detect any suspicious activity, they should notify the en- tity with which the account is maintained and promptly report any fraudulent activity to proper law enforcement authorities, including the police and state attorney general. GBLS takes its responsibility to safeguard personal information seriously and apologizes for any inconvenience or concern this incident might cause. Individuals seeking additional informa- tion may call a confidential, toll-free inquiry line at (855) 651- 2687 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Eastern Time, Monday through Friday.
