About

The mission of the Ella J. Baker House is to mentor, monitor, and minister to high at-risk youth in the city of Boston. Two key programs of the Baker House are the Youth Violence Reduction Taskforce (YVRT) and the W. E. B. Du Bois Society. Over the last fifteen years the YVRT has met weekly for strategy sessions between law enforcement, religious and social service organizations in the city to track and reduce incidents of violence among youth. The Du Bois Society is another program and is run in collaboration with the Hutchins Center at Harvard University. It has been in operation for over fifteen years, creating seminars conducted by Harvard professors for high-school students of African descent. Students from the Du Bois Society have gone on to matriculate at Harvard, Yale, Columbia and other prestigious universities.
