About

Lorraine was born at Boston City Hospital and raised in Roxbury. She attended public schools in Boston and earned degrees at Boston University and Suffolk University Law School. Like so many residents, Lorraine's life was touched by violence when her father and grandfather were both killed in a robbery at their home. She is a lawyer, neighborhood association leader and tireless advocate for community members. Working at an academic research campus, Lorraine held many non-profit positions focused on public health. As a lawyer involved in housing issues, Mayor Walsh appointed Lorraine to the Roxbury Strategic Mater Plan Oversight Committee. In 2018, she was recognized by the Massachusetts House of Representatives for "contributions to Massachusetts families". She is a member of the board at Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation and serves on the Community Advisory Committee for Mt. Calvary Church. The Boys and Girls Clubs in Roxbury named the annual Lorraine Payne Wheeler Civic and Community Engagement Award in her honor. Lorraine is experienced at community organizing and will give a real voice to residents in the issues that they care about.
