100 ÜRBAN LEAGUE of Eastern Massachusetts Back helping to build the next 100 years at the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts It was over three decades ago that I had the honor of serving on the Board of Directors for the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts (ULEM). As a young man early in my profes- sional career, it was the first board seat I ever held. Under the President/CEO leadership of both Donald L. Polk and Joan Wallace Benjamin, we established many programs designed to address the pressing needs of our urban community. Now as we enter the new decade of 2020, we celebrate 100 years of distinction since the founding of The Urban League of Eastern MA. It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I join Board Chairman Joseph Feaster. the Board of Directors and the ULEM community as Consultant President/CEO. We stand on the shoulders of all those who came before us and have served the Urban League of Eastern Massachu- setts as Presidents. Board Chairs & Members. Guild and YPN auxiliary members. staff, volunteers and community partners. ULEM continues to provide innovative job training programs. groundbreaking domestic/sexual violence services training and outreach, cutting edge computer literacy training and a drop-in computer and job resource center. "Celebration of Leadership: Preparation Now for the Next 100 Years" Our guest speaker will be Dr. Brenda Cassellius, Superinten- dent of Boston Public Schools. As our superintendent, her focus is fixing the curriculum, building trust in the community and developing effective operations. ULEM leadership will be sharing the vision and foundation on which we will build the next 100 years of Empowering Com- munities and Changing Lives. Your presence will be greatly appreciated! J.
